Recently, OGU Development Officer Emilene supported the Tonga Gymnastics Federation Incorporated as part of OGU’s regional development projects, working alongside the ACTS Community School to observe how gymnastics is delivered within its kindergarten program and to lead daily 45-minute gymnastics classes.

The children loved every session and greeted Emilene with huge smiles each morning. Teachers created engaging and creative setups each day, ensuring students were excited, prepared and ready to get moving. The program provided a wonderful opportunity to share gymnastics activities while supporting local teachers and coaches with practical ideas that can be adapted and delivered in their own settings.

A highlight of the visit was teaching a Gymnastics for All mixed class attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Tupoutoa Ulukalala's daughters, Nanasipau’u Eliana and Salote a Mafile’o. The session showcased the inclusive nature of gymnastics and the ability of the sport to bring people together through movement, learning and fun.

Throughout the week, OGU and Tonga Gymnastics Federation also explored ways to strengthen gymnastics participation and coaching opportunities across the country. The practical workshops covered a range of topics and helped build momentum for future development initiatives.

Tonga Gymnastics Federation described the week as "very practical", noting that a great deal was achieved and that the activities created strong momentum for the future. The federation also expressed its enthusiasm for follow-up workshops to continue building on the progress made during the visit.

As part of the visit, OGU also met with the Tonga Olympic Committee to strengthen relationships and learn more about the work being undertaken to support sport and physical activity across the country.

We look forward to continue working with Tonga Gymnastics Federation and creating more opportunities for people across the region to participate, connect and thrive through gymnastics.
