The Oceania Gymnastics Union (OGU) will visit Port Vila from 22–26 April to support the establishment of a national gymnastics’ federation in Vanuatu, marking an important step in bringing the sport to the country.

Working in partnership with Vanuatu Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee and local stakeholders, the visit will focus on creating opportunities for people in Vanuatu to get involved in gymnastics and experience the benefits of the sport within their own communities.

“Gymnastics has a way of bringing people together,” said OGU President Kitty Chiller. “It creates opportunities for young people to build strength, coordination and confidence, and it’s a sport that can adapt to different environments, making it accessible to communities right across Vanuatu.”

During the visit, OGU will meet with government representatives, schools, community organisations and potential club locations to explore how gymnastics can be introduced in ways that reflect local needs. A key focus will be identifying and supporting coaches, teachers and leaders to deliver programs within their communities.

Establishing a National Federation is an important step in creating a sustainable future for the sport in Vanuatu.

Expressions of interest are now open for individuals who would like to be part of the NF Executive Committee and help guide the sport’s development in Vanuatu. A public meeting will be held to formally establish the federation, approve the constitution and appoint an interim Executive Committee. Details below:

Thursday 23 Apri

l5:00pm – 7:00pm

Community members with an interest in sport, youth development or community leadership are encouraged to attend.

OGU is also seeking local coaches, teachers and organisations interested in delivering introductory gymnastics sessions. “Come and try” sessions in the coming weeks to showcase the benefits of gymnastics.

This work represents an important step in growing gymnastics across the region and making the sport more accessible for communities throughout Vanuatu.
