Building Fiji’s International Coaching Capability

In January 2026, two coaches from the Gymnastics Federation of Fiji, Robyn Santos and Josiemaraya Ryland, attended the FIG Aerobic Gymnastics Level 1 Coaching Academy hosted by Gymnastics Australia in Canberra.

Delivered in alignment with FIG coaching education standards, the program combined online theory, safeguarding and anti-doping modules with an intensive in-person practical component.

For Fiji, this marks an important step forward.

Prior to attending, the federation did not have any internationally accredited Aerobic Gymnastics coaches. As more athletes compete at international level, strengthening local coaching expertise has become increasingly important.

Developing this capability locally strengthens the federation’s high-performance pathway and reduces reliance on external support. It ensures athletes can be prepared, supported and accompanied by coaches from within their own system.

The program also provided valuable opportunities to connect with Australian coaches and FIG-accredited presenters. These relationships support ongoing knowledge sharing across the region and alignment with international standards.

An encouraging development for Aerobic Gymnastics in Fiji.
